The 57th Annual General Meeting of the Beds, Bucks & Herts Society of Chartered Accountants took place on Monday 11 May 2026 at 19:00 at Rothamsted Conference Centre, West Common, Harpenden, Hertfordshire, AL5 2JQ.

Outgoing President Andrew Mead opened proceedings by sharing highlights from his tenure, reflecting on the Society’s achievements and the milestones reached during his time in office.

The meeting also saw the formal introduction of the new Management Committee and a presentation of the 2025 financial statements by the Treasurer.

Simba Mareverwa was formally elected as the Society’s new President and outlined his priorities for the year ahead. The Society congratulates him and looks forward to his leadership.

Following the formal business, members were treated to a timely and engaging panel discussion chaired by Simba Mareverwa:

“Navigating the Next Generation of Accountancy: How AI Is Redefining Skills and Recruitment” the panellists were as follows:

Fareed Idris Co-Founder & Head of Technology, Kreoh (virtual)

Ben Brophy Founder, BAA Group

The panel offered rich insights into how the accountancy profession — and recruitment more broadly — is evolving in response to artificial intelligence. Discussion converged on five qualities that will define the candidates of tomorrow:

Behaviour — constant curiosity

Critical thinking — nothing should be taken as read

Specialism — timing is crucial

Context — step back to understand the bigger picture

Adaptability — embracing emerging realities with grit

The evening concluded with a networking reception, giving members the opportunity to continue the conversation over drinks and canapés.
